2007 – ‘our’ first UPLIFT Graduation. Gunnar together with Hassan Ringtho, who represented the district board in Okoro (now ‘speaker’ in LC5, Zombo District). It became an 18-year friendship – and as of last year, Hassan is a member of the board of UPLIFT!
An estimated 1.200 participants were gathered in Parombo Sub-County in Nebbi District to celebrate the graduation of this year’s 4.000 adult literacy learners. And at this 25 years jubilee, a total of some 40.000!
Gifts are presented to the prominent guests from Norway. Sometimes a pot of ground-nut sauce, other times a live chicken. Not always easy to take with you in your backpack or on a plane to the north. These boys have gone a bit out of their way – three storeys high! Hmm – special delivery?
As we have now entered 2026, it seems appropriate to point out that UPLIFT, still an actively driving force, has existed for 25 years.
